The Voice in the Desert
John the Baptist Prepares the Way for Jesus
by Kimani Upshur, M.Ed.
Before Jesus began His ministry, God sent a messenger to get the road ready — a wild preacher dressed in camel's hair, living in the desert, calling everyone to turn from their sins and be baptized in the River Jordan. Crowds walked out of the cities to hear him, but John always pointed away from himself: "There cometh one mightier than I after me." This is the story of the voice in the desert, drawn from Mark 1 — the man God chose to prepare the way for Jesus.
Written for children ages 6–12, this book has ten chapters, each with three illustrations (30 in all) and a "Do" activity and a "Pray" prayer to close. All Scripture is quoted from the King James Version (KJV). It ends with a Gospel Invitation that helps a child understand how to begin following Jesus, plus a note for grown-ups. Part of The Made Simple Through Christ Framework from Upshur Unlimited LLC — stories that teach biblical truth with clarity, wisdom, faith, purpose, and discipline, from a Christian worldview.
