Tychicus Made Simple

by Kimani Upshur, M.Ed.

Paul's letter-bearer: faithful in small things, trusted with the gospel. This Scripture-first, Trinitarian portrait follows Tychicus — Paul's beloved brother and faithful minister — through the five New Testament verses that tell his story: carrying the letters to Ephesus and Colossae (Ephesians 6:21-22; Colossians 4:7-9), comforting hearts with news of the apostle's chains, pastoring Ephesus in Timothy's absence (2 Timothy 4:12), and standing ready for Crete (Titus 3:12). Twelve chapters cover belovedness before busyness, the diakonos heart, the fellowservant's equality in Christ, the ministry of transmission, the two-way envoy with Onesimus, the comforter of hearts, the quiet promotion of faithfulness, the sendable servant, faithfulness in small things, the gospel as a sacred trust, the quiet faithful, and becoming a Tychicus for your generation. Every chapter ends with a practice for the week and a prayer addressed to the Father through Jesus Christ by the Holy Spirit.
