Samuel Made Simple

by Kimani Upshur, M.Ed.

The boy lent to the Lord became the prophet who spoke for the Lord. This Scripture-first guide follows Samuel through 1 Samuel 1-28: Hannah's desperate prayer and her song that prophesied the coming King, the boy growing up in a corrupt priesthood, the voice in the night — "Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears" — the captured and returned ark, the thunder at Mizpah and the stone called Ebenezer, the nation's demand for a king like all the nations, the anointing of Saul and his tragic rejection, the choosing of David the shepherd boy, and Samuel's farewell charge to fear the Lord and serve Him in truth. Every chapter points to Jesus Christ, the greater Prophet, Priest, and King: called by the Father, anointed by the Spirit, heard in heaven forever. Called. Anointed. Heard.
