Othniel Made Simple

by Kimani Upshur, M.Ed.

The first judge — God raised him up, and the land rested forty years. This Scripture-first guide walks through all five verses of Othniel's story (Judges 3:7-11): Israel's forgetting and the eight years of servitude under Cushan-Rishathaim, the cry that moved heaven, the young warrior who took Kirjath Sepher and won Achsah's hand, the Spirit of the LORD coming upon him, the judging, the war, the prevailing — and the forty years of rest. Twelve chapters trace the Judges cycle of sin, servitude, supplication, and salvation, and reveal Jesus Christ, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, as the greater Othniel — plus fourteen reflection questions for personal study or group discussion.
